The District Commissioner & Deputies

The District Commissioner has overall responsibility for leading the delivery of Scouting in Ealing and Hanwell. As part of a flexible approach to volunteering, we now have a team consisting of a DC plus two DDCs  working closely together (and hopefully a third in due course).

Heather Jones – I’ve been a leader in Ealing and Hanwell for over 20 years, mostly with the Beaver age-group, plus a few years as an Assistant Cub Scout Leader prior to that.  Before becoming a DC three years ago (as part of a previous team of three), I had held the District-level role of District Beaver Scout Leader and then Assistant District Commissioner for Beaver Scouts. In addition to my DC role, I also hold the role of a Training Adviser for Managers and Supporters as well as being a Beaver Scout Leader. I still love running activities for Beavers – it’s fun and it energises me, which is why I have continued as a Beaver Leader alongside my Commissioner responsibilities. Outside scouting, I spent the last 8 years as a p/t Teaching Assistant in a local primary school, having switched from a previous much longer career in administration. A few years ago, after my parents moved from Belfast to live close by, I stepped away from my school-based job and took ‘semi-retirement’ to allow more time for my caring responsibilities. And this year my first grandchild arrived, so being able to provide support by helping out (as part of a child-care bubble) has been an absolute joy.
