District Website

The updated District website is very near completion and I am planning to go live next week.  Phase 1 will
be a slimmed down version of the existing site with a new design and updated content.  Phase 2 will follow over the next few months and this is where additional functionality will be added.  Once the updated site is live I would appreciate your feedback but also ideas for what you would like to see.

District Photos for the website

There will be a photo gallery for District events but I don’t have that many photos so I need your help.  Can you please send medium resolution versions of any photos you may have.  If they are available online please send the link to benpearson00@gmail.com or post a CD or memory key to 1 Florence Road, Ealing, W5 3TU – I will return the memory key if
you include your address.

Our thanks to Ben Pearson for taking on the role of webmaster and a special thanks to Paul Phillips for his work in setting up the original

Cubs Athletes Badge

Finally, after weeks of grey skies and rain, the sun came out for 69 young athletes as they arrived at Perivale track for a Saturday afternoon of throwing, skipping, running and jumping on 12th May. The Cubs took part in a total of 8 events around the track including skipping 50metres, throwing a cricket ball, 10m shuttle runs, long and high jump culminating with a mass 1000metre run. Sadly Simon (8H) let the leaders down by coming in last in the big race! Of these 8 events, their 4 best results counted towards the badge. They all tried really hard and achieved some impressive results. A number of Cubs even managed to
score maximum points on all 8 events, some to watch as future Olympians I think!

At the end of the day everyone was presented with a badge by the DC. It was a great afternoon and a good time was had by all! My thanks go out to all the leaders who helped make the afternoon work. Like all our events it was a huge team effort and could not happen without you all!

Scouting safely: know who’s in charge

Over the coming months, you will notice an increasing amount of communication to ensure that safety remains a priority for all volunteers. In the June/July edition of Scouting magazine (dropping through letter boxes from 9 June) Wayne Bulpitt, UK Chief Commissioner, explains why this is important and highlights the critical issue of making sure it is clear who is in charge of an activity.

Reports for next issue to reach the editor by 25th June  2012    aphil348@aol.com
