Longridge Cub Water Weekend 2008

It was a rather chilly weekend in October when approx. 30 Sixers & Seconders from Ealing & Hanwell Cub Packs descended on Longridge for a fun filled water activity weekend. The camp was originally planned for June, but the English summer meant that the river was too dangerous for water activities then and the camp had to be postponed until now.

Undaunted by the chill in the air the Cubs and their Leaders braved the weather to take part in sailing, canoeing, kayaking, rowing and bell-boating. Nearly everyone got wet, especially the kayakers and the sailors who managed to capsize! Luckily 1st Hanwell Scout Leaders were running the kitchen and kept everyone warm and well fed. Many thanks to Jim, Pete, Dave and John.

Sunday dawned rather soggy, but a competititive spirit drove the camp onto the water and into two dragon boats for a dragon boat race. Obviously brawn triumphed over brains and good looks (yes my team did lose!!). The rain continued but didn't dampen the spirits of our hearty campers, so well done to all who survived Longridge 2008 and many thanks to all those who made it possble, see you again next year!!
