CUB SCOUT REPORT 2007 - 2008
This past year has shown again that our Cubs continue to thrive and excel, due to the hard work and enthusiasm displayed by our Cub Leaders. Numbers were still very high, and yet still everyone was able to provide a fun and challenging programme for their Young People.
Camporee was again successful, and at the time of writing, the final finishing touches are being put on Camporee 2009, which hopes to surpass the excellent standard of last year. Unfortunately, the planned Longridge Water Activities Camp was let down by the great British Weather, but undaunted, the Cubs plan to be on the water later on this year. I had the pleasure of awarding a number of Chief Scouts Silver awards during the
year, which is always a great privilege for me, and something that John hopes to continue.
With new Scout Troops opening in the District, it is our hope and aim to provide opportunities for the Young People moving up from Cubs to continue their Scouting, but this may not always be possible within their parent Group. I would ask all Cub leaders to consider this, and try to make sure that every Young Person has a chance to continue up, even if it means moving Groups. Through close work with the Scout leaders, there are normally compromises that can be reached, that can benefit both Sections.
We are still looking to find someone to take on the role of ADC Cubs, and whilst this has not slowed the Cub
Leaders down, we do owe it to them to provide a close support officer from the District, and this is still very high
on our agenda.
